Description
MGF (Mechano Growth Factor), also known as IGF-1 Ec, is a splice variant of the insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) gene expressed in response to mechanical overload or muscle damage.
This peptide corresponds to a unique E-domain sequence at the C-terminus of the IGF-1 precursor, giving it distinct autocrine/paracrine properties compared to systemic IGF-1.
Research indicates that MGF promotes satellite cell activation, muscle fiber repair, and localized hypertrophy without significantly affecting systemic metabolism.
By stimulating myoblast proliferation before differentiation, it plays a critical role in early-stage muscle regeneration and adaptation following mechanical stress or injury.
MGF is therefore a key experimental tool for studying mechanotransduction, muscle plasticity, and localized anabolic signaling distinct from IGF-1 LR3 and DES variants.
