Description
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH(4–10)) engineered to produce neurotrophic, nootropic, and neuroprotective effects without affecting corticosteroid secretion.
Research indicates that Semax promotes upregulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF), enhances synaptic plasticity, and supports cognitive performance under conditions of stress or ischemia.
It has also been shown to modulate the dopaminergic, serotonergic, and glutamatergic systems, providing a valuable model for studying peptide-induced neural adaptation and central nervous system resilience.
Preclinical studies show that Semax activates cAMP, MAPK/ERK, and CREB pathways associated with learning, neuroprotection, and cellular repair.
