Description

SS-31 (also known as Elamipretide or MTP-131) is a mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide that selectively binds to cardiolipin, a phospholipid located on the inner mitochondrial membrane, to stabilize mitochondrial structure and function.

This unique binding preserves cristae architecture, prevents electron transport chain (ETC) disruption, and reduces reactive oxygen species (ROS) production — leading to enhanced ATP synthesis and mitochondrial membrane potential preservation.

SS-31 has been extensively studied in preclinical models for its ability to:
